Love this thread. Thought I'd add my latest.

Check out my prototype hack job Forgotten Worlds Panel. Sure to offend ;)

Took a blank E2 panel I had lying around, covered it with some black and white vinyl, and populated with other spare b/w parts. Kinda has an Ikaruga vibe, or maybe Scarface. The spinners go through the b2 holes on the panel which I kinda like as it gives one more space for the spinner hand to rest on the panel.

Uses OG Taito spinners and I modified the ball tops to take little latch buttons so I don't have to hold fire the whole game.

I actually think this setup is arguably better than the "real" hardware setup as separating the firing and spinning mechanic makes for a very comfortable experience. Just my 2 cents.

Down the line, I'm going to get a custom panel from Alberto, maybe with that cool FW art that Codecrank made.

Tear to shreads!!

I'm trying to work out how you managed to install a pushbutton on the balltop. I think it's a neat solution. Seems much easier to push that with your thumb (if you're a ball-cupper :hinthint: ), than to push the spinner as you say.
I like it

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, and it's a latching pushbutton so you don't need to hold it or tap it to fire (although you can tap if you want). Just press, lock, and press again to unlock.

Check out some gameplay:

I used these pushbuttons.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Mini-Push- ... 2749.l2649

Then drilled through the brass threaded part of the balltop from the inside out to thread the button wires through. Then drilled a big enough hole from the top down in the balltop to accommodate the button diameter. It was all way easier than I expected as the balltop plastic is very soft and made for easy drilling.

I had to clip the button wire connectors to the barest solderable nubs but everything fit properly depth wise when installed.

I'm using JLF's for sticks so I got the hollow joystick shafts from focus attack (they make them for Semitsu also), ran the wires through and good to go.

I gotta say I really like them. Been thinking what other games (mostly shmups) I'd use a button balltop setup for.

Both balltops have a black button on them. Why doesn't the black one have a white one? Hmmm?
