Welcome home street fighter 4!

Post by capcomguru »

I'm sitting at my desk at work blogging this 1/2 way asleep, but let me tell you, my lack of sleep was for a good cause!

I got wind yesterday that SF4 has been leaked for the 360, so as soon as I got in from work last night I kicked off the download (already pre-ordered the real deal). Fortunately for me, it was finished this morning, and started burning as I was leaving for work.

So I'm dead tired right now because I was up late wiring up my Xbox 360 to JVS project! I was shooting to have it done before the official launch of SF4, but given the fact it came early, I had to jumpstart the project! So what I've got is 100% done (wiring wise), just needs to be mounted in a project box and prettied up. I ended up using a female CPS2 port, so the box is Capcom compliant (just like all my cabs). For the video, I ripped appart a mad-catz 3-in-1 S-Video/composite cable and rewired it for VGA/Stereo audio. The Audio is running into my QSound amp, so the stereo sounds super nice! For the controls, I wired up two MadCatz joysticks (the wired knock-off controllers). I lucked out and ended up with a pair that have common GND.

I fired everything up last night with Battle Fantasia, and it works like a CHAMP! I'm so pumped right now... 8 hours left of my shift then I'll be in Street Fighter heaven :)

For right now, this thread will be a placeholder. As soon as I can get some pics (tonight), I'll post them here.

Cheers and happy Street Fighting!!!

Yeah- pics to come tonight... I was too tired last night, and was running late this morning.

For the controllers, the jamma inputs are wired directly to a jamma finger. For the kick buttons, all are wired to a hirose female CPS2 port. The capcom I/O is actually being utalized, but only for volume control on the stereo audio.

My Astro 2 cab is wired for both JVS and Jamma. My 360 adapter is sort of a mix-mash of both Jamma and JVS I guess you could say.

Its like arcana heart... jamma edge for controls, stereo/vga for audio video.

Re: common grounds - yes, you are correct that most other joysticks have common ground points. However, if you get a 1st gen wired xbox joystick, and some of the older mad-catz joysticks, you'll see that they have individual grounds instead of a common point. I wouldn't even know where to start with those style sticks... pretty sure you can't make it jamma compliant (you'd need to run the wires directly to the buttons/sticks). If you're going to make one for yourself, and haven't gotten the host pads yet, I would highly recommend going to Gamestop and buying their own-brand wired Xbox 360 controller. They're merely rebranded mad-catz sticks, and only run $25ea. I can confirm they do have common GND.

Me too! Battle Fantasia runs letterbox mode, and doesn't have the option to do 4:3......

I did hear through the grapevine that SF4 does 4:3... we'll see tonight!

Capcom have stated that is doen't have a 4:3 mode already. You can play around with the power bars etc and move them up, but thats it.

PS3 box says 480p , 720p

480p -> 640x480 , which is a 4:3 resolution

480p could mean 640x480 but squished so that it can be stretched to widescreen, like how the Wii does its widescreen. But I was under the impression that 4:3 was confirmed...

well , thats done by the hardware.

if the game supports 480p and you set your system to 640x480 , you will have a full 4:3 picture.

No options to change resolution on the 360 via the vga cable, only things you can move are the top and bottom HUD display icons. Just played it with my Hori EX Fighter stick. Its not too shabby. I dont know how close it is to the arcade machine as I have never seen it in the flesh but its certainly very nice looking and maintains the framerate easily. Now all I need to do is unlearn all my Soul Caliber moves and get into this.
